CHARLESTON, SC Jan. 15, 2013 - The College of Charleston women?s basketball team is inviting schools from across the Charleston area to participate in a fun and educational day filled with basketball and learning for Education Day on Monday Feb. 4.
The event will be held at TD Arena in conjunction with the women?s basketball game vs. UNCG. The arena will open at 9:30 a.m. with the game set to begin at 11:30 a.m. Admission will be free for all students, teachers and family.
?Education Day is a great way for the community to get a feel for our student-athletes,? CofC head coach Natasha Adair said. ?To be in TD Arena and have lots of screaming kids, teachers, parents and supporters cheering us on to victory. I look forward to it and our players look forward to it. It?s an opportunity for our kids to give back and to say thank you, because we are the community?s team.?
The educational theme will center on the STEM program (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
The College of Charleston will provide in-class activities such as information and questions related to the basketball team and the arena that can be used leading up to the event. During the game, students will be given worksheets to fill out related to STEM.
Additionally, professors and students from the College of Charleston School of Sciences and Mathematics will have booths set up throughout the arena for each class to visit with various STEM related activities.
