Jodi Arias answers written questions from the jury during her murder trial on March 7.
By Andrew Rafferty, Staff Writer, NBC News
The judge in Jodi Arias' high-profile murder trial on Tuesday denied defense lawyers' request for a mistrial and dismissed a juror from the case.
Arias' lawyers claimed the juror made comments to another member of the jury that brought into question her impartiality, the Associated Press reports. The move resulted in?Judge Sherry Stephen's removing that juror but denying the claims of a mistrial.?The move leaves five alternate jurors in addition to the 12 charged with deciding the case.
Last week lawyers for the defense argued prosecuting attorney?Juan Martinez committed misconduct by signing autographs and posing for pictures outside the Phoenix, Ariz., courtroom. ?
Arias, 32, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her ex-boyfriend whom she admitted killing in June 2008. The Arizona native could face the death penalty if convicted. Under state law all 12 jurors must agree on the death penalty.

NEW YORK (AP) ? It's no secret that Apple wants to get into the living room by making its own TV set, and there have been plenty of rumors and reports about how and when it's going to happen.
Now, an analyst says he's learned that the set will go on sale late this year, for $1,500 to $2,500.
In a research note Wednesday, Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets says the "iTV" will be 60 inches on the diagonal, but could also come in 50- and 55-inch versions. Apple will also release a small "iRing" that fits on the viewer's finger, allowing the user to control the screen by pointing, White says.
In addition, the set will come with tablet-like "mini iTVs" with 9.7-inch screens, the same as the full-size iPad, White said. The "iTV" will be able to send video to the smaller screens wirelessly around the house. The concept is similar to the way in which cable and satellite TV companies are starting to let their set-top boxes send video to iPads and other tablets.
White says his report is based on gleanings from visits with unnamed Chinese and Taiwanese companies that supply Apple with components.
Apple doesn't comment on future products before its launch events, but late company co-founder Steve Jobs told biographer Walter Isaacson that he wanted to remake the TV and had figured out a way to do it. Last year, there were numerous analyst reports that said Apple would launch a TV set in 2012.
Apple does sell an "Apple TV," but it's a small box that connects to a TV to display movies and shows from iTunes.
Apple shares rose $4.91, or 1.1 percent, to $434.70 in midday trading, as the tech-dominated Nasdaq index fell 0.3 percent. Apple's stock is still close to the 52-week low of $419, which it hit a month ago.

Despite public perception, sexual activity among young adolescents ? those 13 or younger ? is rare in the United States, according to a study published Monday by researchers from the Guttmacher Institute in New York.
Using data from a nationally representative U.S. survey taken during the years 2006-2010 of people born between 1984 and 1993, the researchers found that less than 1 percent of women reported being 11 years old or younger when they first had sex (defined as heterosexual vaginal intercourse). Another 1 percent said they had been 12 years old, and 2 percent said they had been 13 years old at the time they became sexually active.
The percentages were only slightly higher among the male respondents: 2 percent said they had had sex by their 12th birthday, and 5 percent said they had done so by their 13th.
"Policymakers and the media often sensationalize teen sexual behavior, suggesting that adolescents as young as 10 or 11 are increasingly sexually active," said the study?s lead author, Lawrence Finer, in a prepared statement. "But the data just don't support that concern. Rather, we are seeing teens waiting longer to have sex, using contraceptives more frequently when they start having sex, and being less likely to become pregnant than their peers of past decades."
Sadly, the survey also found that among young girls, sex is usually nonconsensual. Some 62 percent of the surveyed women who had sex by their 10th birthday and 50 percent of those who had sex by their 11th birthday reported that the sex was coerced. (The survey data on males did not include this information.)
Pregnancies among pre-teens are ?exceedingly rare,? Finer and his co-author, Jesse M. Philbin, note, and thus ?arguably represent a different public health concern than the broader issue of pregnancies to older teens.?
Yet the Obama administration used health concerns about sexually active pre-teens as a key reason for overturning the U.S. Food and Drug Administration?s 2011 recommendation to make Plan B, the so-called morning after birth control pill, available over-the-counter to girls and women of all ages.
?About 10 percent of girls are physically capable of bearing children by 11.1 years of age. It is common knowledge that there are significant cognitive and behavioral differences between older adolescent girls and the youngest girls of reproductive age,? said Health and Human Resources Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in a statement announcing that Plan B would be available without a doctor?s prescription only to women aged 17 and older.
Such comments ?imply that their speakers believe there is a substantial level of sexual activity among 10- and 11-year-old girls,? write Finer and Philbin.
Using data from other surveys of people born as early as 1939, Finer and Philibin shattered another myth about teenage sexuality in the U.S. ? that it was rare among past generations. They found instead that the median age for first sexual encounter has never fallen beneath age 17 at any time over the past 50 years.
The study also confirms what other recent reports have found: Today?s teens are more likely to delay sex than those of more recent generations.
Here are some other findings from the study:
?Teaching young adolescents about contraceptive methods and prescribing or offering methods before they are likely to become sexually active is prudent,? conclude Finer and Philbin. ?Knowledge of and access to contraception at an earlier age would help those adolescents who initiate sex early, and would likely increase contraceptive use among older teens as well.?
Persuading Americans ? and, more importantly, perhaps, their political leaders ? to expand access to contraception is, of course, a challenging task. As Finer and Philbin note in their study, 54 percent of Americans surveyed in 2007 said that teens should not be allowed access to contraception until the ages of 16 to 19.
And 6 percent said teens shouldn?t have access to birth control at all.
The study appears in the May issue of the journal Pediatrics. Unfortunately, it?s behind a paywall, despite being funded by the National Institutes of Health.

In recent years, the NFL has catered to the post-career pipe dreams of players with ?boot camps? aimed at introducing current and former players to broadcasting, the music industry, and acting.? (The last two represent unrealistic transitional careers for athletes; even broadcasting is an uphill battle for most former players.)
The NFL is now providing current and former players a more realistic way to capitalize on the resources that can flow from an NFL career.
The league has announced that 23 players (13 active, 10 former) will participate in a three-day ?Investment for Impact? event at Notre Dame University.? The program, development by Brady Quinn and Jeff Faine along with NFL Player Engagement, will be aimed at helping guide players toward quality investment opportunities that also have a positive effect on their surroundings.
?The opportunity to play in the NFL has provided a platform to have an impact on our communities,? Quinn, a free agent, said in a release issued by the NFL.? ?It is my hope that through the Notre Dame Entrepreneurial program, attendees may learn how to invest with an impact for the greater good.?
Speakers include Warrick Dunn, Rick Mirer, Jeremy Bloom, and Deke Cooper.
The ?Investment for Impact? program expands on the NFL?s Business Management and Entrepreneurial Program, which has helped more than 700 players since 2005.? We?d prefer to see more events like this, and less that entice current and former players with the perception that football celebrity easily can be parlayed into a career in entertainment.
