STOCKHOLM (AP) ? Sweden's Foreign Minister Carl Bildt says Belarus has thrown out all Swedish diplomats from Minsk, a move that comes only days after President Alexander Lukashenko's regime expelled the country's ambassador.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Bildt ? who is a regular Twitter user ? says Lukashenko's "fear of human rights (is) reaching new heights."
The Foreign Ministry in Stockholm could not immediately provide more details, but the measure follows Friday's expulsion of Sweden's Ambassador to Belarus, Stefan Eriksson.
He allegedly irritated authorities by meeting with the Belarusian opposition and providing a university in Minsk with books containing material about human rights issues. In turn, Sweden responded by saying it won't allow entry for the incoming Belarusian ambassador to Stockholm and by asking two Belarusian diplomats to leave the Nordic country.
